Daddy's '49

1953's the year that Indian went bust
Then the tarnish of time turned the legend to rust
My Daddy was a boy when the last chief left the line
But I can still remember, Daddy's big old '49

Well the engine had a rumble and the pipes slung low
She was built of dirt and leather and that blue burned chrome
The gauges never worked but she ran like fire
And can still remember, Daddy's big chief '49

So strap yourself on and wrap your arms around my chest
point it to the wind and we can ride that baby west
You and me and Jesus leaving everyone behind
And I can just imagine, I'm riding Daddy's '49

We can rumble through the canyons from the desert to the sea
Cruise across the cornfields like the sea of Galilee
We can walk on water when we're riding on the breeze . . . . . .

So strap yourself on and wrap your arms around my chest
Point it to the wind and we can ride that baby west
You and me and Jesus leaving everyone behind
And I can just imagine, I'm riding Daddy's '49

Is that my Daddy in his leather and his shades? Hard to make him out and the dim light fades
Do you think that's him a rollin' up behind?
I can hear the motor . . .
I can hear the engine . .
I can hear the rumble . . . .
Of Daddy's big chief '49

So strap yourself on and wrap your arms around my chest
Point it to the wind and we can ride that baby west
You and me and Jesus leaving everyone behind
I can just imagine,
Oh baby I'll imagine
I can just imagine,
We're riding Daddy's '49
